Lagerstroemia indica ‘Cherokee’
(DR Egolf, Baileya 17(1): 1-2. 1970): Open branched shrub, 2.5 m tall; leaves glossy dark green, thin leathery; panicles 14-19 cm long, 9-15 cm wide, flowers bright red (Red Purple 63A 2 ); created in 1960 from a cross between L. indica ‘Hardy Red’ × L. indica ‘Low Flame’ ; introduced in 1970 by the US National Arboretum; NA 30167; PI 326427.
