Lagerstroemia | Elf lilac

Rules of thumb

The Lagerstroemia makes gardening a real pleasure. Many people have already developed green fingers thanks to the amazingly positive results they have experienced with the Lagerstroemia. They are coveted plants that are much appreciated by enthusiasts.

    • Choose the cultivar that suits you, for the garden or terrace.
    • Ensure dry feet in winter.
    • Prune after the harshest frost.
    • Put it in the warmest and sunniest spot in your garden or terrace, sheltered from strong winds.
    • Prune after the severest frosts and never after the end of July and autumn.
    • In open ground, it does not need to be heavily pruned; annual trimming of the shoots is sufficient. Note that the Lagerstroemia waits a very long time to sprout.

  • Patience is a beautiful virtue, the rewards are great.
  • Should it freeze harder than -15°C for a prolonged period, it is wise to cover or wrap the plant at the base of the stem.
  • Protect young Lagerstroemia for at least up to 4 years in winter and preferably plant in spring.
