Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei Muskogee
(DR Egolf and AO Andrick. The Lagerstroemia Handbook/Checklist A Guide to Crapemyrtle Cultivars, p. 53. 1978): Large shrub or small tree with multiple trunks, 7 m high and 3.5 m wide [NOTE: 8.5 m high with a crown width of 9 m after 35 years]; flaking bark of trunk, medium brown (Greyed Orange 164B-165D 2 ); leaves heavy, dark green, 5-9 cm long and 2.5-4.5 cm wide, colouring nicely red and yellow in autumn; inflorescences 10-18 cm long, 10-12 cm wide, with light lavender (Violet 84C) flowers; under field conditions the plant is very tolerant of powdery mildew. Originated in 1964 from the crossing of L. indica ‘Pink Lace’ × L. fauriei ; selected in 1969; Introduced in 1978 by the US National Arboretum; NA 38448; PI 427114. Name registered on 15 May 1978.
