Lagerstroemia indica Near East
(Overlook Nurs., Mobile, AL. Cat. p. 48. 1952-53): The flowers are flesh-coloured pink, bloom several weeks later than most pink cultivars and are less hardy. Introduced from East Asia around 1870, this cultivar was lost in commercial trade in the United States around 1890. In the early 1930s, a surviving plant was found in Washington, Louisiana, by Mrs D. Debaillon, who gave it to K. Sawada Sr. of Overlook Nurs. The name and introduction were provided by Overlook Nurs. around 1952. Amaranth Rose 530/3 1 , fading to white in the middle.
