(DR Egolf, HortSci. 22(4): 674-677. 1987): Deciduous, semi-deciduous, multi-stemmed, large shrub or small tree; old branches and trunk chestnut brown grey orange 175C to 177B 2 ); leaves elliptical to inverted ovoid, 7-10 cm long and 2.5-3.5 cm wide, dark green (green 137A above and yellow-green 146C below), red (red 45A) to dark red (red 46A) in autumn; inflorescences semi-pendulous, 15-20 cm long and 10-15 cm wide with bright pink (red-purple 62A to 62C, 62D) flowers, mass flowering from June to September; mildew resistant; hardy in zone 7b; Originated in 1972 from the cross ( L. indica ‘Dwarf Red’ × L. fauriei ) × ( L. indica ‘Pink Lace’ × L. fauriei ); selected in 1976; introduced in 1987 by the US National Arboretum; NA 54980; PI 499826.
