Lagerstroemia indica ‘Plum Magic’
(US plant patent no. 23,518): Deciduous, compact shrub to 105 cm high and 95 cm wide after 4 years; leaves 40 mm long and 22 mm wide, young leaves emerge grey-purple 187A on top and grey-purple 187C on bottom, mature to grey-green 189A on top and yellow-green 146B on bottom; inflorescences 11 cm long and 7 cm wide, flowers 20 mm long and 30 mm wide, emerge and mature to red-purple 71B. Arise from open-pollinated seed of ‘Gamad VI’ . (Griffith Propagation Nursery Inc. Catalogue, 2014): “(1.8-2.4 m) (Zone 6) Beautiful plum-purple new shoots mature to grey-green on a shrub with a medium, upright, rounded growth habit. Flowers are fuchsia-pink. Faded flowers can be removed and the plant reblooms after about 4 weeks.” Named and introduced by Joshua Kardos. Name registered on 24 January 2014.
