Lagerstroemia indica ‘Rhapsody in Pink’®.
‘Whit VIII’ (US plant patent no. 16,616): Deciduous, upright shrub to small tree 3 to 4.5 metres tall and 2.4 to 3 metres wide; leaves 2.5 to 7 cm long and 1.3 to 3.8 cm wide, young leaves emerge grey-purple 187A on top and bottom, maturing to yellow-green 147A on top and yellow-green 147A or 147B on bottom; inflorescences 10 to 50 cm high and 10 to 40 cm wide, flowers 1.9 to 4.5 cm wide, are grey-purple 186B or 186C or 185D or red-purple 64D. (Spring Meadow Nursery, Inc. Starter Plants Catalog and Shrub Reference, 2010-2011): “A strikingly unique look in the garden with soft pink flowers against almost purple foliage. New shoots are almost purple and remain present for most of the season. Upright form. High mildew resistance. USDA 7 (6), AHS 12, 3-3.5 metres.” Named and introduced by Carl Whitcomb. Name registered on 28 January 2014.
