Lagerstroemia indica ‘Siren Red’®.
‘Whit VII’ (US plant patent no. 14,975): Deciduous, upright shrub to small tree, up to 1.8 metres tall after 4 years; leaves 2.5 to 5.7 cm long and 1.2 to 5 cm wide, young leaves emerge grey-purple 185A on top and bottom, maturing to green 137A on top and green 138A or 138B on bottom; inflorescences 20 to 40 cm high and 15 to 25 cm wide, flowers 1.9 to 4.4 cm wide, are grey-purple 183A. (Spring Meadow Nursery, Inc. Starter Plants Catalog and Shrub Reference, 2010-2011): “The darkest red flowers yet, clearly darker red than Dynamite or Red Rocket. The darkness/intensity of the red is less affected by cool, cloudy conditions. New shoots are wine-red and quickly change to dark green. High mildew resistance. USDA 7(6), AHS 12, 2.4-3 metres.” Named and introduced by Carl Whitcomb. Name registered on 28 January 2014.
