Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei ‘Tuscarora’
(DR Egolf and AO Andrick, The Lagerstroemia Handbook/Checklist, AABGA, p. 64. 1978): Large shrub or small tree with several stems; stem light brown; leaves heavy, glossy on top, dark green and red-tinged when young, 3-8 cm long, 2.5-3.5 cm wide; inflorescences 12-30 cm long and 10-20 cm wide, with dark coral pink (Red 54A 2 ) flowers; plant under field conditions very tolerant of powdery mildew. Originated in 1967 from the cross Lagerstroemia ( L. indica × L. fauriei ) ‘Basham's Party Pink’ × L. indica ‘Cherokee’ ; selected in 1971; introduced in 1978 by the US National Arboretum.
