Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei Tuskegee
(DR Egolf, HortSci. 21(4): 1078-1080. 1986): Deciduous, multi-stemmed, small tree; clearly horizontally branching, trunk mottled light grey-brown (Greyed Orange 164D 2 ) and spectacular throughout the year; leaves elliptical, 6-10 cm long and 2-5.5 cm wide, dark green (Green 137A above and Yellow Green 147B below), orange-red in autumn (Orange 26A, Orange Red 34A to Red 46A); inflorescences 15-22 cm long and 12-18 cm wide with dark pink to almost red (Red Purple 57D) flowers, frequent, recurrent flowering from early July to September; mildew resistant; hardy in zone 7b; Originated in 1968 from crossing of L. indica ‘Dallas Red’ × L. ( L. indica × L. fauriei ) ‘Basham's Party Pink’ ; selected in 1972; introduced in 1986 by the US National Arboretum. NA 48471; PI 499814. Name registered 1 May 1992.
